Re-opening of the Whitworth Art Gallery

City Centre Posters were approached by the online art and travel site Creative Tourist Limited to help create a tease and reveal campaign for the reopening of one of Manchester’s most loved galleries, The Whitworth Art Gallery.

The campaign was launched across the streets of Manchester with a tease poster, showing only a green background with the words “We’ve been building something” and the date 14 February 2015. Posters were placed in carefully chosen locations, utilising our sites close to cultural hotspots and areas of heavy footfall.

A few weeks later the tease posters were replaced with reveal posters showing the new look gallery, asking the public to fall in love again and announcing the reopening of The Whitworth Art Gallery on 14 February. The Gallery has undergone a £15 million development adding two new wings to its existing building, doubling the gallery space in size, as well as the addition of a treetop cafe.

The gallery welcomed over 17,938 visitors during the reopening weekend, which included live classical music and a meteor shower firework display.
